Classical Homeopathy

HOMEOPATHY WAS DEVELOPED 200 YEARS AGO BY SAMUEL HAHNEMANN (1755-1843), a German doctor, who became disillusioned with the barbaric treatments of his time (bloodletting, leaches, mercury application, creating an artificial wound etc.) According to the World Health Organization, homeopathy is the second most used form of medicine in the world today. It is part of the conventional healthcare system in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, India, and most of South America.

The word “homeopathy” comes from Greek words: homeos – similar, pathos – suffering. The basis of Homeopathy is the principle “like cures like” or Law of Similars. That means a substance that causes symptoms of a disease in a healthy person can cure a sick person suffering from similar symptoms. Homeopathy helps the body to balance itself by stimulating the body’s own natural ability to heal itself.

Homeopathic remedies are mostly made from plants and minerals. Unlike herbal extracts or supplements, which contain many molecules of the original substance, homeopathic remedies are diluted so many times during the preparation, that they become very safe, non-toxic and have no side effects when used. Homeopathic remedies work on energetic level; it is a gentle message to the body on what to do. Homeopathic remedies do not interact with conventional medicines and are so safe, that can even be used for infants and pregnant women.

How do homeopathic remedies work? Recent research shows that even very diluted substances contain nanoparticles, and that is most likely the basis for homeopathic remedies action.

After 200 years of Homeopathic practices, there are numerous pieces of research that show a significant benefit from homeopathy for a wide variety of conditions.

Research articles for many conditions can be found in PubMed by typing appropriate keywords, for example, “homeopathy for pain”: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed
